Are you trying to decide whether to choose the History option for IB but couldn't make up your mind? If yes, do consider these factors. Perhaps they can help you to make the decision that would suit you the most.
Do you like research? History is the kind of subject that requires quite a lot of research. The higher the mark you want to gain, the more research you should do.
Do you like reading books/articles etc.? History is not like Science where you can do practical work. It requires you to sit down and do a bit of reading yourself.
Do you have to remember a lot of facts, dates and names? Most people tend to link History with memorising dates, names and stuff like that. If you are good at remembering dates and people, that's perfect. If you are not so good at it but still want to choose History, it's still perfectly ok. Yes you still need to remember certain important dates (e.g. Nov 1914 - the outbreak of World War I) or certain important people (e.g. President Truman). However, it's not the most important thing. The more important things that you should remember is interesting facts in History (e.g. cartoons, certain quotes historians said). That's what would get you high marks. If in exams, you forget the exact date that the Corfu Incident happened for instance, just give the approximate stuff (e.g. early 1920s) (however, it's still need to be somewhat true).
Do you like writing essays? I promise you if you don't like writing essays after essays, this might not be a good choice. Having said that, there are still exception. If you love the subject, whether you like writing or not will not be such a big problem. You will learn to adapt to the essay problem soon enough.
More importantly, do you love History? If you love the subject and ready to put in some hard work, go ahead choose it!!! From where I live, History is not the favourite subject (I haven't travelled a lot so I'm not sure how applicable this is to the rest of the world) and not many choose it. However, if you love it, ignore what people say or think about your choice and go ahead make your own decision.
I hope these are helpful for you. Good luck!!! BEST OF LUCK FOR IB!!!
